Nurture the Future

The origin of Hijiyama University and Hijiyama Junior College dates back to the 1939 establishment of Hiroshima Showa Women's Middle School, specially designated as a teacher training school for the students of Hiroshima Bunrika Daigaku (Hiroshima University of Literature and Science) and Hiroshima Higher Normal College. Based on the founding philosophy 'To strive for the traditional Japanese ideal of Permanence in Life', we nurture persons who have excellent humanity and specialized knowledge and skills, and who can contribute to the development of local communities and the world.
About 15 minutes from the center of Hiroshima city, facing the rich flow of the Ohta River, the campus is surrounded by greenery and flowers throughout the four seasons. Approximately 2,000 students are engaged in learning for their futures in the university's five departments, three junior college departments, and graduate and advanced courses. In addition, graduates of our university/Junior College are recognized as persons who can be trusted in their respective fields, and are active in creating and supporting society.
Our university and junior college value our traditional educational philosophies, but are never satisfied with our achievements to date. We are constantly working on new education that will be necessary for the next era, and will continue to take on challenges. The newly created logo represents the four wings for students to live better and the way they learn to acquire them. The gray background represents the solid earth, and the yellow represents the bright "tomorrow" rising from the earth.
Students at Hijiyama University and Hijiyama Junior College proactively engage in learning, in order to acquire the qualities and abilities necessary to live well in the future society, independence, imagination, coexistence, and creativity. All the faculty and staff are always striving to provide high-quality education and meticulous learning support for the realization of the dreams of each and every student. Together, we nurture the future of people and society.
